Well, its our last day in Livingstone before we board another two planes to fly to Port Elizabeth. Livingstone has been really magic. Our first day consisted of viewing Victoria Falls (A Natural Wonder of the world). The Zambesi river is very high due to all the rain and as a result the falls were thundering. We were absolutely drenched by the spray, but soldiered on and saw the falls from a number of points, including below the falls at a place called the boiling pot. We then chanced our luck negotiating with locals over handicrafts they made. I ended up trading a plastic drink bottle and a carabina for a wooden elephant + $2 US. Not sure that I will make my fortune as a negotiator. We then went onto the bridge between Zimbabwe and Zambia, speaking to locals and watching brave souls bungee jumping off the bridge. After a beaut lunch we headed to the local Zambian Village 15 kms out of town called "the Makuna Village". It is really a series of villages across 80km - and is home to 7000 people. The villagers are lovely people and despite a scarcity of what we would regard as the necessities of life- they are happy.
Our second day consisted of white water rafting down 11kms of the Zambezi river. Apparently the rapids we negotiated were Category 4 and 5. I am not a rafter, but I think that means that the rapids were massive. We fell out three times and some how managed to get back into the raft much to the delight of our raft guide Voster.
The gorges along the Zambezi are incredible. We also found out that they have decided to suspend rafting today as the river is too full and fast at the minute. We also had a leisurely cruise along the upper reaches of the Zambesi on a cruise boat with 25 people from Denmark on a touring holiday. The Dains drink alot and have an opinion on everything so we all felt most at home. Especially David. Today we fly out of Zambia for the next stage of our adventure. " Onya bike son."
