A Reflection on the weather in Port Elizabeth

Well it's happened again. PE which has been in drought for ages and having some very dry hot days has had a dramatic shift in weather. Sources from the weather bureau were unable to explain what was happening but suspect it was a rare occurrence in South Africa called the "Mark GEDYE effect". What happens is Gedye says something like "PE has the most beautiful and moderate weather" and then weather patterns mysteriously change. Sitting at the hotel at PE observers (us) noted that rain began to fall, temperatures dropped 5-10 degrees and a blanket fog rolled in from the sea. So bad was the fog that fog horns sounded every minute. GEDYE has now been invited to visit other areas of Africa that have not seen rain for a year or more.
